"It's dark and it's quiet - most of the time. Worse, it's empty; the last thing I remember before this started is a hospital teeming with life, but now it's dead, it's still, and I'm alone. Well, not completely alone - they're here, whatever they are. All I can do is hide when they come, and wander around when they leave. I don't know what I'm looking for - everyone's gone and time isn't moving anymore, so there's really nothing to find. I'm just stuck at 913 and there is nothing I can do.

So I'm gonna talk, and I hope you're there to listen."

913 edition by Jake Taylor Literature Fiction eBooks

A scary premise indeed, waking up in an abandon hospital that you can't escape not knowing what has happened, how long you have been there or why you are the only one around. This short is written as a stream of consciousness from a terrified lost soul speaking directly to the reader. The author does a good job of relating the isolation and terror the lost soul feels. Though I saw the ending coming I was intrigued to find out exactly how this story ended. Recommended.

913 edition by Jake Taylor Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

From the start, this story pulls the reader along for a chilling ride---and said reader has no idea where it's going to end up. A stream-of-consciousness piece, it follows patient Heather Lawson through the murky corridors of a supposedly abandoned hospital. But don't think it ends there---this story is much more than that, and readers who enjoy the paranormal or science fiction will be quite entertained.

A worthwhile read by the very promising new writer Jake Taylor.
Most short stories get to be a little predictable, especially when things start to wrap up. This one kept me guessing, and still had a satisfying end!
Although predictable this book takes you on a journey that you won't forget. Loved every part.
Excellent short story that will grip you. This is a very promising young author who's succeeding works will be eagerly anticipated. I'm a fairly critical person, but can't find much to criticize. You can't go wrong with this top-notch work.
Gripping Read ! I really dug the premise and it was brought to life in a strong, skilled effort here. Well done !

First person/present tense brings that raw, palpable sense that the reader is a part of it. However, this story was a great lesson in maintaining the integrity of such an intense situation, with a blend of stream of consciousness and skilled writing, to hasten the pace giving that situation the respect it deserves.

A lot of writers get tripped up in putting their ego over the story and there is obviously a need for detail and texture. However, when called for ,the author did a superb job with a vivid, yet precise descriptions (i.e. the characters home life), striking a cord and adding an extra jolt into the readers experience (honestly took me from what I thought was the plateau of intensity to a whole other level, the first of several actually). The same can be said for thought provoking jabs at the human condition along the way. Though unique, like any good story, I was pulled in quick, it escalated exponentially, and it didn't let go until it fluidly set me free.

Look forward to more from this young writer that "gets it".
